Urgent dental problems

We'll see pain and broken teeth as quickly as we can schedule a visit. We want to be straight with you, though: we are not a same-day emergency service.

If any of these apply, don't wait for us: facial swelling that is spreading or affecting the eye, difficulty swallowing or breathing, bleeding that won't stop, or a high temperature with dental pain. Contact a GP, an emergency dentist or go to A&E. Then call us and we'll arrange follow-up care at home.

What we can help with

Toothache and sensitivity, a broken or chipped tooth, a lost filling or crown, a sore or ulcerated mouth, a denture that's cracked, loose or rubbing, and pain under a denture. For most of these we can settle the problem at the first visit and plan anything further.

While you wait

Paracetamol or ibuprofen as the packaging allows (check with a pharmacist if the patient is on other medication). Keep the area clean with warm salt-water rinses. Take a loose denture out if it's rubbing. Avoid very hot or very cold food and drink.

Getting seen sooner

Tell us it's urgent when you contact us. We group visits by area, so if a dentist is already due nearby we can often add a visit within a few days.

Common questions

Do you do out-of-hours or weekend call-outs?

No. Visits are scheduled during normal working hours.

Can you prescribe antibiotics?

Where clinically appropriate, yes — but antibiotics alone rarely fix a dental problem, so we'll also plan the treatment that will.

Ready to arrange a visit?

Tell us a little about the patient and where they are. We'll call you back to plan the visit and answer any questions.
